Embark on a Musical Journey: ‘Storytime Adventures’ with CDA Symphony and North Idaho Youth Symphony

The Coeur d’Alene Symphony is set to enrapture audiences on January 27, 2024, with an enchanting and family-oriented concert, “Storytime Adventures,” to be held at the Schuler Performing Arts Center at North Idaho College (NIC). Featuring a captivating blend of symphonic masterpieces and youthful talent, this concert promises an evening of musical delight, engaging all generations in a magical experience.

Under the baton of Associate Conductor and Concertmaster Philip Baldwin, the concert will showcase a collaboration between the Coeur d’Alene Symphony and the talented North Idaho Youth Symphony (NIYS), accentuating the harmonious blend of experience and emerging talent.

The journey begins with Herold’s exhilarating “Zampa Overture,” a spirited composition that resonates with vibrant energy. The North Idaho Youth Symphony will join forces with the CDA Symphony to deliver a performance that ignites the stage with youthful exuberance, setting the tone for an evening filled with musical adventures.

Transitioning to a more reflective piece, the Coeur d’Alene Symphony takes the spotlight with Schappals’ “Golden Windows,” a graceful composition that paints a picturesque landscape of melodic beauty. This piece illustrates the beauty of everyday life and shows that miracles are often housed in the most ordinary of things. The characters of these short stories include mothers, children, farmers, and even angels. Following this, the orchestra will enrapture the audience with Coleridge-Taylor’s evocative “Ballade in A minor,” evoking emotions and transporting listeners through expressive musical passages.

As the evening progresses, a brief intermission offers a chance for attendees to mingle and reflect on the enchanting first half of the concert, setting the stage for the upcoming musical marvels.

Returning with renewed vigor, the orchestras present Diemer’s invigorating “Youth Overture,” a composition that pulsates with youthful fervor and showcases the exuberance and promise of young talent. The North Idaho Youth Symphony, alongside the Coeur d’Alene Symphony, will captivate audiences with Berlioz’s rousing “Rackoczky March,” enveloping the auditorium in a whirlwind of stirring melodies and captivating rhythms.

The highlight of the evening awaits as the combined orchestras deliver a spectacular performance of Bedelt’s “Pirates of the Caribbean.” A beloved classic, this piece brings to life the swashbuckling adventures through its bold and dynamic melodies, promising an exhilarating finale that will leave audiences spellbound.

We are thrilled to present ‘Storytime Adventures: A Family Concert,’ where musical tales unfold and imaginations soar. This concert is a celebration of musical diversity and talent, showcasing the collaborative efforts between seasoned performers and the vibrant energy of our talented youth.
